August Gallery Opening Reception featuring the work of Rebekah Davis

Thursday, August 6, 2026 - 5:30 PM EDT

August Gallery Opening

Date

Thursday, August 6th

Time

5:30pm - 7:30pm

On August 6th, we welcome Rebekah Davis as our featured August gallery artist.

This is a free event and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided along with good conversation and great art.

Based in the rugged landscapes of Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, I am an acrylic painter whose work serves as a vibrant testament to the power of transformation. After spending decades dedicated to the classroom as a school teacher, my artistic practice has evolved into more than just a creative outlet—it is a vital, therapeutic practice of reclamation and healing.

My journey as an artist is deeply intertwined with my journey as a survivor. My canvases are where I process the complexities of the past and celebrate the strength of the present. I use the bold, immediate nature of acrylics to translate my experiences into a language of color and texture. For me, art is not simply a hobby; it is the therapy that allows me to rebuild and rediscover my own voice.

Roots and Connections

  • Heritage: Though I now call the coal regions home, my roots reach back to the quiet, pastoral scenery of Lower Milford Township in Lehigh County. This blend of rural upbringing and current surroundings often informs the grounding sense of place in my work.
  • Family: My greatest pride lies in my three grown sons, whose journeys into adulthood continue to inspire my own growth and perspective.
  • Advocacy: A lifelong lover of animals, I am a staunch advocate for adoption. My home is shared with rescued pets who provide both companionship and a constant reminder of the beauty in second chances.

Artistic Philosophy

In both my professional life as an educator and my private life as a painter, I believe in the necessity of expression. My art invites viewers to witness a process of resilience. Through every brushstroke, I aim to turn pain into perspective, proving that even after the most difficult chapters, we have the power to paint a new, brighter reality.

Soy Candle Workshop

Thursday, September 10, 2026 - 6:00 PM EDT

Soy Candle Workshop

Date

Thursday, September 10th

Time

6pm - 8pm

Join us for our first hands-on say candle workshop at Tamaqua Arts Center. Take some time for yourself and learn the craft and process of making your very own small batch soy candles.

You will make one amber jar candle and 4 tealights using 9 oz of locally sourced soy wax. Your 1 wick amber jar soy candle will burn for a total of 44 hours. Tealights burn up to 6 hours.

Personalize the fragrance from an assortment of 20 high quality, phthalate free oils to choose from. Every single oil used is vegan, cruelty-free, and formulated without phthalates and ingredients found on California’s Proposition 65 list. The oils used in ShePaintsCo candles have no known or suspected carcinogens, mutagens, reproductive toxins, organ toxins, or acute toxins.

Decorate your candle and tealights with an array of biodegradable glitters, crystal chips, and soy wax embeds. Decorate your 4 tealights while your main candle cools.

You will be guided through step by step, no experience needed! This workshop is for anyone 12 and up. This event includes all tools needed for your candle making experience. A wax melter is provided to pre-melt the soy wax, which is then poured into your own pour pitcher to blend with choice fragrance oils. Individual tea lights hold .6 oz of wax and burn up to 5 hours each. Trade tealights you create with others in the group to leave with a variety of scents infused with each others creative expression.
